Mid-autumn Festival or Moon Festival
It was hard for me to find a subject. I asked people to help me so I could find something good to talk about, and they keep telling me that I should do a Chinese thing. People tell me that, which I find mildly annoying sometimes, anyway… ^^ so, as a Chinese girl, let’s talk about a Chinese custom which must be as important as Christmas in western countries: it’s called Mid-autumn Festival or Moon Festival “La Fête de la lune” in French, it may sound familiar for those. For the others, I’m going to tell you :
1. The story of mid-autumn festival: it is a myth, you know, Chinese History is older than three thousand years, so each event is related to this whole History. The moon festival comes from there.
2. How we celebrate it : each year, it’s held on the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around mid or late September in the Gregorian calendar (that is based on the sun cycle). To conclude, I would say that there are many versions of the story, a Vietnamese version, a Japanese version, in Wikipedia there are more than five different ones, what I’m going to tell you is my favourite, not necessarily the most famous. I won’t detail it here because I have only two minutes and it’s really short, so that’s it, for now.
Hi there !
I didn’t understand why Aurore has corrected my blog because I’m not in the five followers on the list… it seems like she took the alphabetical order list instead of the one on Mr G.’s blog.
Anyway ! I’ve corrected those blogs :
Hi Trang ! Well I found a little little mistake right here :
- You can hear me presentation here : => you must mean “my” presentation
That’s all =)
Hi Vincent !
I’ve found some other mistakes, but some are just other ways to say some things which sound better to me :
-Take any opportunity to work on a film and accumulate experience
=> According to wordreference it seems that it refers rather to electricity, so you can say “acquire experience” or “gain experience” which are more appropriate to me.
- To work in this field, you must have the technical skills to utilize the computer programs.
=> You can say “use” programs
- Have a degree or certificate to complete
=> I think that you have to repeat “a” : have “a” degree or “a” certificate to complete …
- Many directors begin their careers as actor, cameraman-operator or broadcast journalist.
=> Same thing here : … begin their careers as “an” actor, “a” cameraman-operator or “a” broadcast journalist.
- These kinds of jobs require a lot a travel and…
=> You must mean : a lot “of” travels…
- He may be to relocate in depending on the projects which he is working on.
=> I don’t understand this sentence well, you mean that “he must/might have to relocate depending on the projects … ” ? If it is this meaning I think that you can’t put two infinitives “may be” and “to relocate” together but use “might or must” to express the conditionnal. Plus, “in depending on” : I think that “in” is not necessary here.
Well that’s all, very nice blog by the way =).
I think I have nothing to add, except for this :
- see you for another job ![]()
=> Uppercase missing here !
(Thanks to the others for correcting before I did)
Well, we cannot post on her blog, but it’s ok it seems she didn’t make mistakes so…
Hi Yacine,
I’ve found some mistakes in your post, there aren’t many but you repeat it several times, like :
“…forum which talks about the making…” or “…I find a lot of videos talking about animations..”
=> I think that “deals with” or “dealing with” is more appropriate.
“Next time, I searched …”
=> You can not say “next time” because it’s past so you can say “the following time I searched, I’ve found”…
And some others, like :
“I ever know some great name in visual effects productions like ILM from”
=> You mean you have never knew a such great name in visual….? ( I don’t know if my sentence is correct either, still…)
“But it’s very interessant.”
=> “interesting” is better, unless you wanted to put some French on it =)
I think that’s all =) See you in class !
Hey, it’s me again !
I was on my way to get ready for my birthday (again, I celebrated four times already this week, but it’s ok as long as I’m getting more gifts each time :p) so I just wanted to say thanks, to my friend Aurore for correcting my blog, seems like I made a looooot of mistakes, but I assume that it’s ok, we are here to improve and it’s ok to make mistakes, blablabla !
Please next time, think about the poor student who will have to correct you and write less text please ! (lol)
I just wanted to say, Aurore, that I’m sorry if I did this to you, but the thing is, I just didn’t expect that from Mr Gerome, it’s his job after all ! Seems like someone has found out how to spend a long week-end without working ! -Just kidding Mr G. please don’t give me a bad mark !!!!-
BTW : Aurore’s birthday on November 13th, we have no class on thursday but don’t forget it still !!!
Hi everyone,
After being in four classes today, and heard four times the “Happy birthday song”, well I think that everybody who reads me now must know about my 21th birthday ^^’ thanks Karine & Florianne for making the entire planet aware of it, and the others (of course!) for singing which such enjoyment !
Anyway I’m posting this know because I’m certainly going to forget it for next week, here is the little story we’ve imagined in class this morning, by Nassim, Karine, Laetitia, Jordan, Maxime, and me ! As you see, the title is very original =p enjoy !
Sophie’s Birthday
Today I took the bus, as usual. My bus driver talks a lot, sometimes, he even stops driving just to talk, which passengers find very annoying.
This morning, he wished me a “Happy birthday”. How could he know that it was my birthday? He might have seen my blog. I assume he got to know the everyday life of every passengers.
He made sure to tell everyone to sing along the Happy birthday song. His voice is just terrible.
After 5 minutes singing loud, everybody started complaining. People who are not used to take this bus must have trouble understanding the situation.
What is the conclusion? Just being a cool driver will not necessarily mean involving into people’s private life.
He was an entertainer, althought a better talker than a bus driver.
BTW : Karine’s birthday, revenge on November 7th !
So, here come the results of my “googling” about game development :
I started with those key words :
1) game development how to because it’s quite explicit after all, if we want to work on game industry
others :
=> Game developers sites
2) Then , I looked for interviews so I added the key word : game development how to interview
3) So I was looking for videos, I added the key “video” but with “interview”, otherwise we would have too many results with “video games” so it wouldn’t be helpful : game development how to “video interview”:
3) I had too many videos in specific games so it wasn’t always interesting, I searched for some podcasts : game development how to podcast
It’s funny because we had to transcript a podcast made by Steve Kaufmann, a linguist and a former diplomate who talks nine languages. My dear teacher Mr Gerome told us about him, so we have started to transcript a podcast which deals about the right way to learn languages, he says that it isn’t enough just to talk a lot without listening : if we really want to improve ourselves, we also have to want to improve. Anyway I’m trying to sump-up this because I was really going to do my assignment as my teacher told us to do, but the thing is … in the page he gave us to listen the podcast, the transcription of the podcast has already been made by its author, so it was really difficult to try to avoid it and pretend that “Oh gee I haven’t seen it and I will make my own transcription like I was blind -_-” you know what I’m saying… The other thing is that my friend Karine has kinda warned me about it, and so I couldn’t just do like her and pretend that I had never seen it, because even if I didn’t want to, I’ve read it all before I clicked on the link (ahah, that was fast uh? umh.. anyway…). You know, it’s like giving a test online and have the answers on the bottom, just right here and all you have to do is … not to look ! Well, I believe in a lot of things, but surely not in something like that, and I’m sure that you either.
So… Instead of making a pathetic copy & paste of the transcription, I was thinking that this little story about “how come I didn’t make my own transcription” would be a very-healthy-english-improvement-exercice ! Because at the moment I’m writing this, I’m thinking that it is not as easy as it seems. When we write in French, we think of the right way to make the sentence, and choose the words, (and even that is not easy for everyone, still…), when we write in English, we think in French, then in English, then we try to think of a better way to say it, or write it. Because, as Mr Gerome said in class last week, sentences translated in English or French do not sound the same after the translation. Passive form, for example, doesn’t sound as good in English as it sounds in French, and I’m realizing that now, while I’m trying to share my thoughts, and I really want to make it simple : no hard words, no complicated grammar, I just want to send a very simple message, and somehow I’m making my own reflection about langages too (but I know, I’m not a linguist, and I don’t have a beard either, ahah!).
Anyway, for you Mr Gerome (because now that I’ve read your e-mail, I know now that you DO watch our blogs, I’m aiming to do my assignment about the google search, so don’t worry, this time you will have it before 9:00 am tomorrow, and even before 10:00 pm) see you later !
Hi everybody,
As our English teacher Mr Gerome wanted us all to create our own English blog, tadaa here it is !
